Fashion is a style or way of dressing that reflects an individual’s taste and character. It can also refer to a particular period of time when a certain type of clothing is worn. Fashion changes over time, and what was once considered stylish may eventually become out of style.
The earliest fashions were developed as practical garments for specific groups of people. For example, denim jeans were created because miners needed sturdy pants to protect their legs from rock chips and other debris. Later, fashion designers began to experiment with different styles of jeans and other clothes in order to come up with new looks that would appeal to consumers.
Although fashion is sometimes associated with the latest trends, it is actually much more complex than that. Garments often go through several stages before they are ready to be sold: cutting and shaping, adding seams, linings, buttons and other fasteners, adding trims, washing instructions, country of origin labelling and more. These processes are not always clearly defined, but they form an integral part of the overall fashion process.
A fashionable style is one that suits the wearer and enhances his or her figure. The clothing should be well made and the colours should complement each other rather than clash. If possible, it is best to avoid wearing very bright or neon colors. These can be very off-putting and make the wearer look younger than he or she is. Darker, muted colours are more flattering for almost everyone and they can be combined with a few splashes of brighter colour such as a necklace or shoes.
