Types of Team Sport
Team sport involves two teams of players trying to score goals against each other. There are many different types of team sports, such as ice hockey and basketball.
Water polo is another example of a team sport that is played solely in the water, but it requires much more endurance and coordination than other sports. This is due to the fact that each crew member is constantly sitting in the water and needs to have excellent core and arm strength to maneuver the oars and boat.
Lacrosse is an incredibly fast-paced sport that can be played by men or women and involves a lot of communication between teammates. Each player has a specific role on the team and needs to develop their skills to perform that role effectively.
Cheerleading is another interesting example of a team sport that involves competition and requires an extreme amount of focus and reliance on teammates to achieve success. This is done by displaying flexibility, endurance, stability, strength (to catch and hold teammates), and concentration.
Professional team sports are a form of economic organisation in which labor (mainly players), capital, and land (stadiums) are combined by clubs that supply teams to produce a saleable product – the game or contest. This structure is similar to a cartel with teams acting as firms that are forced to compete for the market share of the game.
Tracking systems provide a wealth of data about the physical characteristics of team sport athletes during training and matches. This data can be utilised to identify changes in the physical characteristics of athletes as they perform drills, on-field rotations, quarters or matches. This data can be interpreted to examine physical and skilled characteristics, enabling practitioners to better understand how training can impact performance, injury risk reduction and development.
